As the popularity of Peppa Pig and Friends continues its global success, Chic Petit introduces My First Peppa Pig Activity Toy

Peppa, her family and friends have been a TV sensation for pre-schoolers for over 15 years and we want to share some surprising facts about the characters and their creators:

Peppa Pig is a 4 year old animated cartoon pig who has been in the starring role of this popular British children’s since 2004. Peppa and her family and friends are always having fun in muddy puddles and other adventures and the clever scriptwriting shares educational messages with its little viewers. Whilst born and bred in the UK, Peppa now appears in the U.S. on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr., and in many other countries around the world. The episodes are five minutes long and kids just love Peppa, George, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and all their friends. From a single idea to a £multi-million empire this is a true success story, but it wasn’t always that simple.

1. PEPPA WAS CREATED BY THREE UNEMPLOYED FRIENDS

The idea for Peppa Pig came to Neville Astley and Mark Baker in 2000, who were out of work animators with no money. They brought in producer Phil Davies and they all borrowed money from family and friends to get Peppa Pig off the ground!

2. THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY This newly formed trio founded the Astley Baker Davies brand and were originally working on a different show for the BBC - when scheduling issues arose, they took Peppa Pig to Channel 5 instead and the BBC missed out!

3. PEPPA WAS AN INSTANT SUCCESS 12 months after its first episode aired in May 2004, the show had won a BAFTA and had pulled in over $1.5 million in merchandise sales.

4. PEPPA HAS BEEN VOICED BY THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE

Child voice-actors Lily Snowden-Fine (season 1), Cecily Bloom (season 2), and Harley Bird (beginning in season 3) have all contributed to the show. In 2011, Harley Bird won a BAFTA for the role, making her the youngest performer ever to win at the age of 9.

5. AROUND THE WORLD WITH PEPPA

Though Peppa lives in the UK with her family, she can be seen in over 200 countries worldwide!

6. MISS RABBIT GETS AWARD FROM THE QUEEN

Nobody could ever accuse Miss Rabbit of being lazy! So far, she’s had jobs as a nurse, fire fighter, helicopter pilot, librarian, bus driver and more! In season 4 of the show and tied in the with book launch, Miss Rabbit wins the Queen's award for industry. The episode and the book were specially created to encourage children to participate in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.

7. HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN IS A FAN! Queen Elizabeth herself is said to be a fan of the Peppa Pig series which she likes to watch with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

8. THERE ARE PEPPA PIG THEME PARKS Peppa Pig World is a theme park within a theme park at Paultons Family Theme Park in Hampshire. A second park called Peppa Pig Land opened at Italy's Gardaland Resort.

9. PEPPA HAS STARRED ON BRITISH STAMPS The British Royal Mail announced that some of the public's best loved children's TV characters would appear on official UK postage stamps and Peppa was in good company with Bob The Builder and Paddington Bear!

10. PEPPA REACHES NEW HEIGHTS

Twitter went crazy and Peppa was trending after a Google search showed that Peppa is over seven feet tall. If Peppa Pig is that tall then that puts her right up there with Shaquille O’Neal – I hope she likes playing basketball!
